Cannon Design & Paintover

I started designing the cannon by using some initial sketches, I used online references and real references to get the design I was looking for.

The initial sketches mapped out elements of the final design, which weren't too difficult to piece together.

I then went on to build the model in 3DS Max, I use booleans on the main cannon, as well as making instances for the barrels.

I made the base to scale of the barrel.

I started adding a design on the side.

After addind the design I tweaked it and bent in to fit the barrel.

I then set my colours, materials and lighting for the render.

A WIP paintover of the final render.

After a class review, I went for a redesign of the turret, with less spikes and less blue. I kept some shielding at the back for the person using the turret.

I then did the main paint over with this design.

I found this design much kinder on the eyes, and the lack of spikes definitely re drew your attention to the most important part, the cannon.
